FOZ DO ARELHO
PRIVATE HOUSE
Private house in Nadadouro, Caldas da Rainha. The study started March 2006, with planning approval in September 2007. On-site work started in September 2007 and was completed September 2008. Project built by Engiaço, Construções Técnicas Lda. The plot has an area of 988 sqm, and the house 184 sqm of footprint area, with a gross building area of 278 sqm.
The building establishes a continuity with the existing adjacent volumes, and consists of two floors set in a parallelepiped shape. Functionally its based on two principles: 1. a public area that develops on the ground-floor, communicates with the garden and establishes a strong between inside-outside relationship. 2. private areas located on the top floor, where the rooms open themselves to the landscape and enjoy the scenery of the lagoon.
The position of the house aims to maximise the relationship with the landscape and to have a minimal impact in terms of massing. Given the context and morphology of the surrounding topography, it was our purpose to turn the social areas to south-east and south-west, since these are the sides to which the landscape opens up, and where privacy and quality of solar exposure are better.
