Competition made in 2002. Ranked in fourth place. The Lamego Museum is a building turned into itself. A quality that, together with the characteristics of its estate, give it an intimate essence, opening itself up only in its courtyard.

Taking on this assumption, we proposed to maximise its functional capabilities and to turn this courtyard into the physical heart of the museum, and hopefully of the city itself. Also, we sought a more comprehensive physical and programmatic growth for the museum. Our intervention intends to create a new built whole by connecting the old refurbished building to the new proposed new building, with a strong connection between both.

We aim to enable the creation and maintenance of a new universe of users. The frequent visitor who has a special relationship with the museum, and that can enjoy the modern features proposed. The program we propose for the new space is designed as a complementary public service to the core exhibition of the museum's permanent collection, looking for a coherent articulation between existing and new.
